Motion A – INDUSTRIAL ACTION TO FIGHT JOB LOSSES

 

Newcastle UCU notes

  1. The ongoing dispute with the employer concerning job losses across the institution; failure to rule out compulsory redundancies; detrimental impact of cuts on staff, including increases in workload, and its impact on health and wellbeing.
  2. The successful ballot with a very high turnout

 

Newcastle UCU believes

  1. That we will continue to organise through working groups, re-establish the action committee and work with students to bring pressure upon the employer

 

Newcastle UCU branch resolves

  1. To commence Action Short of a Strike (ASOS) as soon as possible for the duration of the mandate
    1. Working to contract
    2. Not undertaking voluntary duties
    3. Not providing cover for non-replaced staff

 

  1. To take escalating strike action as soon as possible for four weeks
    1. Week 1: 2 days of strike action
    2. Week 2: 3 days of strike action
    3. Week 3: 4 days of strike action
    4. Week 4: 5 days of strike action

 

  1. To instruct the committee to select dates of strike action during term-time to maximise their impact
